Review on Drake’s ninth studio album ‘More Life’!

Drake releases his 9th studio album through Apple, Tidal and Spotify last week. The Toronto native infused R&B interludes, with caribbean inspired hits. Dominating the Billboard Hot 100 chart, Drake lands himself another platinum album! While some may say the rapper is culture appropriating the genre of what has taken over the music industry, others may beg to differ.

The story-telling 22-track album includes multiple Toronto based artists, such as PartyNextDoor, Jorja Smith and Black Coffee. His hottest single ‘One Dance’ from his previous album ‘Views From The 6’ was a preview of what he had planned to do with this project. From track 1 to 22, the Jamaican inspiration is evident and executed precisely. Some may say he received the inspiration from his former Barbados native girlfriend Rihanna, through their hit record, ‘Work’.

The rapper also includes a sampled piece from the Latina entertainer and his rumored to be girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez. Drake samples J-Lo’s ‘If You Had My Love’ released in 1999 from her ‘On The 6’ album, on one of his records titled, ‘Teenage Fever.’ Now could this be the rapper implying his passionate love for Lopez? Fans are also coming to the conclusion that he was possibly only pursuing the actress for the rights of the song.

The R&B singer’s rap beef does not end with this album. Last summer, Drake and his fellow label-mate Nicki Minaj’s ex-boyfriend, Meek Mill went at it. Dropping his grammy-nominated hit record ‘Back 2 Back’ throwing multiple shots at Mill, Drake continues the rap beef with his new album. Addressing the ghost-writing rumors that Meek Mill brought to the table, Drake says,

“How you let the kid fightin’ ghostwritin’ rumors turn you to a ghost? Oh, you got jokes.”

Although the rapper is facing much controversy for all the facets in his artistry, he is drowning in his success. Achieving multiple billboard records, for most consecutive tracks on the top 100 list, and his ninth studio project to debut at No.1 on the charts. The rapper is continuously creating the longevity for his career, and plans to announce a near by tour for his fans!
